To the family, friends and brothers and sisters in law enforcement, my family and I send our deepest condolences. No words and or actions can remove the pain and loss you have experienced, however, there is someone who can help you in your time of sorrow and loss. I pray that the one and only living God will send his comforter, the Holy Spirit, to help you during this time and that you may encounter the love of Jesus in a new and powerful way.

We live in a fallen world and darkness surrounds us, but the light and love of Jesus will never fail anyone who calls on his name.

I pray for peace and blessings for you all.

Thank you so much for your service. My dad was James Mahoney, who had been Deputy-Chief of MIT police before he retired in the 90's. He loved all the men and women of MIT PD, and so do I. They all took care of me and my classmates when I attended MIT. I know how dedicated and brave the police are. Although he did not meet Sean, I am sure dad would have been so proud of him. He represented the department honorably. Perhaps he has met dad in heaven, and they are exchanging stories about the 'Tute.

Prayers and blessings to Sean's family and the MIT community. You are all in my heart,

Laurel Mahoney Francoeur '92

"Death is nothing at all.
I have only slipped away to the next room.
I am I and you are you.
Whatever we were to each other,
That, we still are.

Call me by my old familiar name.
Speak to me in the easy way
which you always used.
Put no difference into your tone.
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.

Laugh as we always laughed
at the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me. Pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word
that it always was.
Let it be spoken without effect.
Without the trace of a shadow on it.

Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same that it ever was.
There is absolute unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind
because I am out of sight?

I am but waiting for you.
For an interval.
Somewhere. Very near.
Just around the corner.

All is well."

I work evenings at the MIT Medical center. The campus police often come by to check on us. From the first time Sean came through he spoke to us by name and made brief, friendly conversation.

I will never forget his smile.

The night of April 18 I was at the medical center when the phone rang. I had been getting calls from various news organizations wanting information and advising them of our news office phone number(s). But, one call was from a tearful woman who said she was in Maryland watching news."I have no information to share," I said. She replied that she didn't want news, but rather wanted to let us know that she was praying for us all in Boston, and for the MIT community. Her heartfelt and spontaneous outreach is typical of the way the world has responded to the events in Boston, and to Sean's death.

Sean touched many lives in his own short one. He made the world a better place, and will always be remembered with love.
