To the Collier family and friends:

I am truly saddened by the terrible chain of events that included the loss of your son, cousin, friend... We can only hope that his passing will come to mean something more to all of us and to help give purpose to those that currently sacrifice their lives to protect others, as Sean did. Please find solace in your faith and support each other like I imagine he would have wanted.

Our deepest sympathy to Officer Sean Collier's loved ones and the MIT community. We've been surrounded by images of senseless violence and unbearable pain, but we look at Sean's photo and in that one image, and in all that has been said of him, we are reminded that most people are good, even brave. His death was senseless, but Sean and his life's promise gives us hope. God bless you, Sean; God bless us all; and God bless America.

My heart leaps out to you. I find this poem by Mary Elizabeth Frye beautiful:

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft starlight at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

I am so very sorry for the loss of your wonderful son.

As Police Officers we are tasked with responding to "routine" calls & more "heated" calls. No matter what the situation we respond every time. By the nature of our jobs we respond and never say gee this call sounds dangerous, I will sit this one out. We are all brother & sisters responding to the call, doing the job we are paid to do, and that we dedicated our lives to. We are members of the biggest brotherhood and stand together as one. God Bless brother, you are in our hearts and in our souls.

Condolences to family and friends of Officer Sean Collier. Although it has been almost 25 years since I lived on campus, I remember very well the comforting presence of the MIT police in our community; the strength and confidence provided by officers like Sean were a critical part of the environment which empowered our MIT experience. At this moment, we are painfully mindful of the commitment to service and sacrifice by Sean, we should remind ourselves to keep this feeling in our hearts and express appreciation for these very special people that protect our communities. With deep gratitude and sadness,

Thanks to officers like Sean Collier, I always felt completely safe walking around campus even at 1AM back when I attended MIT. MIT Police officers were some of the most competent and influential members in the law enforcement community. I am saddened and angered by this senseless violence against someone who only wanted to do good for the community. Hats off to you, Officer Collier, and thank you for your sacrifice! May you rest in peace.

Praying that in the coming days and weeks you find peace in the knowledge that you are never alone in your grieving. I send prayers of courage and fortitude as the feelings of loss steal away the joy you shared with Sean. God loves you and is with you now and always. The hearts of your community, state, country and the world are hurting for you. We are praying for you and for Sean. God bless his soul and may his bravery and passion of life always be remembered!
