Another senseless and tragic killing of a police officer. Sean, thank you for your dedication to duty, thank you for being their when others run away, and thank you for your ultimate sacrifice, however, much too soon, so that others may live in safety and enjoy the freedoms this country provides.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to your family and friends. From all of us at the Rollinsford NH Police Department, we are eternally grateful to you. God Speed.

A decade of my life was spent at MIT both as a MBA student at Sloan and as an employee. My work there brought me in regular contact with the MIT Campus Police Force. They were always extraordinary people who gave of themselves to make life more liveable and enjoyable for the rest of us. From helping the sick, the distraught, the handicapped, the young, the old they always were at your side. Sean Collier represents all of those who have served with such distinction and honor. All of us who were so served thank Sean for his sacrifice and honor him and his family for that service to so many. God Speed Sean!

For months I have anticipated my return to campus on April 25 as part of the 50th Anniversary of Jazz at MIT celebration. Some of the events will be conducted at the Stata Center, near the spot where Officer Collier met his untimely demise. As a result these events cannot now be exactly what they were planned to be. Yes, students, alumni(ae) and guests will assemble to share tall tales, make music and honor our own late heros, and I will enjoy the opportunity to interact with the student musicians whose futures seem limitless. But the image of one young man who will not be there to continue his service to our community will not leave my mind. As the Institute moves past tragedy and resumes its course we should well remember Sean Collier and contless others who make it their daily round to keep the campus a vineyard of open expression, creativity, personal growth and well deserved recognition.

I walk through campus every day and night to get to the office and home again. The MIT campus police are as much my protectors as the Cambridge Police and I am forever grateful for your presence. May Officer Collier rest in peace.

When I was at MIT in the mid-70's, the Campus Police were our buffer from the city police, and helped us stay out of harm's way and also out of trouble. I have fond memories of those days and of my few interactions with the Campus Police. Sean, you were my son's age -- you young with your life ahead of you. Thank you for making the ultimate sacrifice protecting MIT, it's students, faculty, and staff. I didn't know you, but I miss you. My great condolences to your family, friends, and the entire MIT community.

I left MIT in 1978, but I've worked in and around universities ever since, and am on a campus now. The story of your life has helped me realize just how special a campus police officer can be. I wept when I heard about your death but, having learned about your life, I feel more grief but I also feel uplifted. Thank you, Sean.

Though I have lived across the country for 10 years now, this week I've felt I was in my home just down the street in Cambridgeport or Somerville... or on the SafeRide shuttle... or walking home well after dark from the lab. I was blessed to have been safe, protected, and healthy during the decade I was at MIT and I owe that to the brave and dedicated officers such as Sean Collier. Words cannot express how grateful I am for their service, and my sorrow at Sean's death.

I think about where I was at age 26 - having just met my future husband, still in graduate school at MIT, looking forward to marriage, the birth of my 2 children, buying our first home. There are no words that can fill the gaping hole left in Cambridge following the senseless murder of Officer Collier. My deepest sympathy for his family, friends, his MIT police family, and the entire city and nation as we remember, mourn and begin to heal.
