Officer Collier: God's grace and blessings on your memory, and may you rest in peace. MIT security has been an important ingredient in the education we all received at that amazing place, and in the community of faculty, students, and administration. They were a civilizing element, models of mature and caring behavior, and keen students themselves of the things we callow youths were in need of. Protection yes; a climate of responsibility, even more so. At the Graduate House, while attending the Sloan School, my little "Margie" (a 1951 MG TD) was always given a benefit of the doubt when parked illegally, or completely covered by the latest blizzard, or unable to start under the weight of gas-line freeze up. A proud place. A memorable Institution. Made even better by the attributes best represented by Sean last week.

I was a student at MIT quite a few years ago. Although I didn't know Officer Collier personally, I do know what a great organization the MIT Campus Police is and the integral role it plays in the community. When I was an undergrad from 1973 – 1977, the campus police were so friendly and helpful to me. I’m certain Officer Collier upheld that tradition of student-friendly service and protection. May his memory inspire future generations of MIT police. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

I am deeply saddened by Officer Collier's death. I wish his family the best in these terrible times. The MIT police are a special group, who probably do not hear "thank you" enough -- but they are a vital to the MIT community. It is tragic that one of these good men was taken by this senseless violence.

As an MIT alum, I had fond memories of the MIT Police Department from my time at MIT. Every officer was friendly, approachable, professional, and supportive of students and student activities. Being a campus that literally never sleeps, MIT Police similarly has to stay awake at all hours of the day; Officer Collier's tragic death is a reminder of the important and invaluable work that they do. I recently graduated from MIT and had nothing but positive experiences with the MIT Police; they once went so far as to give me a ride to urgent care when I sprained my ankle and couldn't walk there myself. Though I didn't personally know Sean, I feel like I did, and I'm thankful to have had him as a part of the community. May he rest in peace. And may his family and friends find peace as well.
