My deepest sympathies and thoughts and prayers to Sean's family. Such a senseless tragedy. His friendly smile will be sorely missed on the campus.

Speaking as the son of a retired Watertown Police Officer and speaking as a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1990), I wish to express my deepest sympathies and condolences to the family of Officer Collier. No words can bring him back, no sense can be made of this -- my only hope is that you are able to find strength in the strong communities involved. That some of your pain and sorrow can be taken on by all of us and that you all get through this as best as you can.

All of our thoughts and our prayers are with you in this difficult time.

Thank you. I can't think of any words to write that won't be trite and meaningless compared to your sacrifice.

Cowards take lives. Heroes protect them. Sean Collier is a true hero. His courage will never be forgotten.

To all the MIT police, who took the same risk last week and wouldn't hesitate to do so again next week: thank you for your protection and service to the community.

Sir, it is very humbling that you lost your life protecting students like me. When duty came calling, you went all in -- duty to protect us. And we have a duty to actively engage in making MIT, Boston, and this world, a better place so in a parallel world, you would not have lost your life. Rather you would still be here, hiking with us, sharing with us, and caring like you did right to the end. Rest in peace officer.

On behalf of the Becker College Police Department, our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Collier family and the men & women of the MIT Police Department.

Officer Collier was clearly an amazing young man. His commitment to his community, his dedication to his job, and his unselfish sacrifice are an inspiration to us all. We are all saddened at the loss of one of our brothers, yet in this terrible tragedy Officer Collier has brought together literally thousands of people to begin the healing process. To his family please know that each and every one of us in the Law Enforcement field stands ready to assist you however possible in these difficult times. We are honored to have shared the title of Police Officer with such a noble and dedicated young man. The outpouring of support shown here is a testament to the quality of his character.

Rest in peace Officer Collier. Let us take it from here.

This was an extraordinary young man. A brave man with a huge and happy heart. Reading about Sean through my tears has been truly inspirational. I have no doubt that hundreds of people whose lives Sean touched directly, along with thousands who like me have only read about him, will never forget Officer Sean Collier. My thoughts are with his family, his colleagues, his friends and those very lucky members of the MIT community who got to know Sean.

Dear Sean,

During the past 10 years I have been at MIT, pursuing various degrees and activities, the Institute has become a second home and its members my extended family. You and your fellow MIT Police Officers have always helped us students feel safe, and not only safe: cared about and supported, which is no mean feat at MIT in the dark winter months under the load of deadlines. When I hear that you were offered a position in the Somerville Police Force, I think, "Oh, but don't leave us! We care so much about you and don't want you to leave." And then I remember that someone already took you away from us, too permanently and too soon.

While we can never repay your sacrifice, I hope that as a community we will find a way to honor your memory, your spirit, your courage, and how much you cared about your fellow man.
