It is because of people like Officer Collier I never doubted my safety while attending MIT. I am eternally grateful to you, your family, and MIT Campus Police.

I read through the brother in law AMA on reddit, here: http://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/1crrtb/mit_police_officer_sean_col...

I also saw his escort home photograph(also seen above), here: http://i.imgur.com/vgMt81P.jpg

I am very sorry to hear of this tragic and unnecessary loss of life, and I know that all those who knew Sean and his family will offer their condolences in person.

I also know that Sean will be truly missed, and that he was an excellent officer and human being.

Dear Collier and MIT family, my soul ached when I heard about the terrible Thursday night events. But, know it was Officer Collier's service that began the end of the week's events. It was the response of his fellow officers that then led to the Watertown confrontation that ultimately resolved and stopped the evil intent that was directed against us all. Without Sean, we would still be in danger. That's a great man to me.

Many of us alumni have moved away from the Boston area following our graduation. But a big part of our heart was left behind with the MIT Community and our wishes for its safety and success. Imagine our heartbreak, during this horrific week of tragedy, to learn that an MIT Police Officer gave his life to protect and defend the safety of MIT. As we will remember this tragic events, we will never again think of MIT without remembering Sean Collier, a young professional who died in the line of duty protecting our beloved Institute and its people.

I have always been a fan of the MIT police department ever since walking onto campus as a freshman and through my years beyond graduation. Though I never had the chance to meet Sean, I thank you for your service and for making campus a safer place. May you rest in peace.

The MIT police does so much for the MIT community - not only keeping us safe but in themselves contributing to the community. I am so heartbroken at the horrible loss of life of Officer Collier and know that he individually made a wonderful contribution to MIT students and the community at large.

I hope that all MIT Police Officers know how much we as students appreciate their incredible dedication, service, and support and hope that each of you will be able to take time to mourn and know that the entire MIT community is standing with you and so appreciative of all you add to the community at MIT.

May the family gain comfort from the secure knowledge that Sean was a good man, with the heart of a volunteer.

Sean, you may have been the victim of someone's private war, but your life and your service means more than they could ever take. Rest in Peace, Brother.

Rest in Peace Officer Collier!

To members of his family and friends: The world is less today because of this wonderful, young, exemplary life cut short. He is in a better place watching over all of you. My deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to all.

I graduated from MIT in 1974. The early 70's were a hectic time. The MIT police force was friendly, supportive, and often protected us from ourselves despite our best intentions to the contrary. My strongest memory of the MIT police comes from my freshman year, when I was bundled into the back of the "Gray Armadillo" (a combination ambulance, utility vehicle, patrol car, and SUV) and taken up to Mt. Auburn hospital after I broke my arm in half. I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the MIT police, and they are among the many good memories of my time in Cambridge.

From everything I read, Officer Collier followed in the best traditions of the MIT Police. I was utterly devastated to hear that a member of our community had been senselessly killed. My condolences to his family, friends, and the MIT community. We lost a member of our extended family.

May his soul rest in peace.
May his love for MIT and that of his fellow officers be reflected in the way the Institute and its students look upon the valuable service the MIT Police Force performs for us all.

Officer Collier, your sacrifice was one that should never have to be made by anyone, and certainly not by someone who was just 5 years old when I first stepped foot onto the campus at MIT in 1991. You may not have known, in your last moments, what meaning your life and actions had for the rest of this city, this country, and the world. But we all do and we will never forget.
