Sean Collier

I attended MIT many years ago. I was deeply saddened when I heard of Sean Collier's tragic death. Please accept my sincere condolences and please be sure to pass them along to his loved ones. It is a terrible loss. Thank you.

Dear Collier and MIT family, my soul ached when I heard about the terrible Thursday night events. But, know it was Officer Collier's service that began the end of the week's events. It was the response of his fellow officers that then led to the Watertown confrontation that ultimately resolved and stopped the evil intent that was directed against us all. Without Sean, we would still be in danger. That's a great man to me.

I have always been a fan of the MIT police department ever since walking onto campus as a freshman and through my years beyond graduation. Though I never had the chance to meet Sean, I thank you for your service and for making campus a safer place. May you rest in peace.

While it´s been a while since I walked the MIT campus I cannot express how important a role campus security played in our college experience. I cannot thank you enough for making the ultimate sacrifice for the safety of our entire country. RIP.

The MIT police does so much for the MIT community - not only keeping us safe but in themselves contributing to the community. I am so heartbroken at the horrible loss of life of Officer Collier and know that he individually made a wonderful contribution to MIT students and the community at large.

I hope that all MIT Police Officers know how much we as students appreciate their incredible dedication, service, and support and hope that each of you will be able to take time to mourn and know that the entire MIT community is standing with you and so appreciative of all you add to the community at MIT.

Thank you for the opportunity to express our collective appreciation for the brave work of all MIT police officers. Everyone in the MIT community feels this loss.

To members of his family and friends: The world is less today because of this wonderful, young, exemplary life cut short. He is in a better place watching over all of you. My deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to all.

I graduated from MIT in 1974. The early 70's were a hectic time. The MIT police force was friendly, supportive, and often protected us from ourselves despite our best intentions to the contrary. My strongest memory of the MIT police comes from my freshman year, when I was bundled into the back of the "Gray Armadillo" (a combination ambulance, utility vehicle, patrol car, and SUV) and taken up to Mt. Auburn hospital after I broke my arm in half. I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the MIT police, and they are among the many good memories of my time in Cambridge.

From everything I read, Officer Collier followed in the best traditions of the MIT Police. I was utterly devastated to hear that a member of our community had been senselessly killed. My condolences to his family, friends, and the MIT community. We lost a member of our extended family.

RIP Officer Collier...Thank you for all you did to keep us all safe....You are a true hero....

Officer Collier, your sacrifice was one that should never have to be made by anyone, and certainly not by someone who was just 5 years old when I first stepped foot onto the campus at MIT in 1991. You may not have known, in your last moments, what meaning your life and actions had for the rest of this city, this country, and the world. But we all do and we will never forget.
