Although I never met Sean, I did have the pleasure of meeting several members of the MIT Police Department as a former MIT employee. I found everyone I met to be personable, genuine, and overall good people...so I just know Sean was the same. My heart just breaks for his family, lost future, and the MIT Police Department and Community. Please accept my deepest condolences.

I wanted to express my condolences for Officer Collier's family, friends, fellow officers, and the MIT community. I went to MIT some years ago, and the CPs were an integral part of the MIT community, and keeping it safe. I am so thankful for, and the MIT community is so blessed to have, officers of the caliber of Sean Collier.

I am so very sorry for these events, and I will keep Sean Collier in my prayers. Thank you so much, those who serve and protect. We don't say thank you enough, and I'm sorry it's taken events like this to get me to express those thoughts.

The MIT Police are our friends and protectors. Sometimes it is hard to explain that to people for whom the police are seen as a threat. Whether is to report a possible intruder in the wee hours, or let us into an office when we forgot our key, Sean and his fellow officers were there for us - with cheerfulness and ability. We grieve over this terrible loss.

The most heartfelt thank you to you for being, and to your family for helping shape you in to, someone with the character and courage to make the ultimate sacrifice in order to help protect so many others. We can only imagine how much more damage they might have done if not found. Luckily we’ll never know. Rest in peace Sean.

As an MIT alum (MIT '88), I offer my sincerest apologies. While on campus, it was easy to take the MIT Police for granted - Sean's contribution and sacrifice remind me of how important each and every one of us are to the welfare and lifestyle that we enjoy in the United States. I am deeply indebted to people like Sean and I am deeply sorry for his unfortunate passing.

To the Collier family, to Officer Sean Collier's co-workers at MIT and in the broader law enforcement community, and to his many friends:
Many people around the country and around the world will remember Officer Sean Collier who, like me, did not have the pleasure of knowing him personally. I am a resident of Cambridge, and I incidentally completed a graduate program at MIT several decades ago. I am terribly saddened by the fact that Officer Collier became a casualty of the recent tragic events in the Boston area simply by doing his job. Although I did not know him, I am proud to realize his dedication to his chosen profession and his service to the community. I am also grateful that he chose to dedicate his short but accomplished and admirable life to protecting the MIT community and also the general public. He will not be forgotten. He will be widely and very fondly remembered as a heroic figure. May you be comforted in your sorrow. Many people such as myself found your statement very moving: that, while you mourn his passing, you realize that he died doing what he loved most, which was serving and protecting the public. We should all learn from and attempt to emulate your generosity of spirt and ability to see the big picture in the midst of such profound personal loss and tragedy.

To the Collier Family and MIT Police,

I am extremely saddened and hurt by the fact we have lost one of our own within the community. I do not know Sean personally, but I wouldn't need to have met him to already know what officers like him do everyday in uniform. Brave officers such as Sean Collier put themselves at risk every single day in order to keep the rest of the community, students, and faculty safe. Thank you.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Collier Family and MIT Police. The healing process begins now - know that we are all there with you in support.

Best,

Officer Collier: God's grace and blessings on your memory, and may you rest in peace. MIT security has been an important ingredient in the education we all received at that amazing place, and in the community of faculty, students, and administration. They were a civilizing element, models of mature and caring behavior, and keen students themselves of the things we callow youths were in need of. Protection yes; a climate of responsibility, even more so. At the Graduate House, while attending the Sloan School, my little "Margie" (a 1951 MG TD) was always given a benefit of the doubt when parked illegally, or completely covered by the latest blizzard, or unable to start under the weight of gas-line freeze up. A proud place. A memorable Institution. Made even better by the attributes best represented by Sean last week.

When I was an undergrad from 1973 – 1977, the campus police were so friendly and helpful to me. I’m certain Officer Collier upheld that tradition of student-friendly service and protection. May his memory inspire future generations of MIT police. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
