I recently graduated from MIT and had nothing but positive experiences with the MIT Police; they once went so far as to give me a ride to urgent care when I sprained my ankle and couldn't walk there myself. Though I didn't personally know Sean, I feel like I did, and I'm thankful to have had him as a part of the community. May he rest in peace. And may his family and friends find peace as well.

With my sincerest condolences,
Mike

To the Collier family and friends:

I am truly saddened by the terrible chain of events that included the loss of your son, cousin, friend... We can only hope that his passing will come to mean something more to all of us and to help give purpose to those that currently sacrifice their lives to protect others as Sean did. Please find solace in your faith and support each other just like I imagine he would have wanted.

Our family wishes to send to any small piece for comfort and love that you may find in this note. We are so very sorry Sean was caught in this horror that engulfed our city. We have always been incredibly proud of all our first responders who keep us safe and care so much for their city. We know that you as his family also made the sacrifice to keep us safe each time he walked out to do his job. We hope as a family of 3 that our message may allow you to know that we will always remember Sean, you his family and the ultimate sacrifice he made to keep us safe. We are keeping you in our hearts and hope you pull closer to one another to find solace and grace in this most horrific time.

I was a student at MIT 1988-1990. I did not know Officer Collier, but I know the MIT police force. Every week night at 11pm, one of the MIT police officers drove me from the Sloan School library to the commuter lot. The MIT police kept me safe. I could not have earned my degree without them. I thanked you then and I thank you now for the difference you make in the lives of students and the community. A special thank you to Officer Collier and his family. You make a difference.

I want to express my gratitude for the MITPD and particularly Sean, thanks for being there for me when I was at MIT, to open doors after hours when I forgot my access card, help out when someone seemed in distress and generally make the campus a safe and friendly place. Many tears of sorrow over the tragic loss <3

I am very sorry to hear of this tragic and unnecessary loss of life, and I know that all those who knew Sean and his family will offer their condolences in person.

I also know that Sean will be truly missed, and that he was an excellent officer and human being.

Dear Collier and MIT family, my soul ached when I heard about the terrible Thursday night events. But, know it was Officer Collier's service that began the end of the week's events. It was the response of his fellow officers that then led to the Watertown confrontation that ultimately resolved and stopped the evil intent that was directed against us all. Without Sean, we would still be in danger. That's a great man to me.

Many of us alumni have moved away from the Boston area following our graduation. But a big part of our heart was left behind with the MIT Community and our wishes for its safety and success. Imagine our heartbreak, during this horrific week of tragedy, to learn that an MIT Police Officer gave his life to protect and defend the safety of MIT. As we will remember this tragic events, we will never again think of MIT without remembering Sean Collier, a young professional who died in the line of duty protecting our beloved Institute and its people.
